:: Skm Motorsport Chase Grand National Glory At Parramatta

Despite a tough 2009/10 campaign thus far the SKM Motorsport Dirt Late Model Team is optimistic of its chances of success in the Tyrepower Late Model Grand National to be held at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway (NSW) Saturday January 23.

“If it could go wrong this season, it has” said team principal and driver Neil Wallace.

“But despite all the set back’s we have experienced we are still upbeat and believe we can get the job done in the Grand National Saturday night”.

“We have plenty of car speed, and I feel that I am driving as well as ever. We just need to shed all the mechanical woes we have experienced this season” said Wallace.

“Our last meeting at Parramatta (January 15) was a prime example. We were solid in the Heats and scored a 3rd and 6th placing. With an inverted top six in the Main we started off pole and were running 2nd early on. A few laps in I noticed a change in the engine tone but with the gauges looking OK I pressed on. About three laps later smoke started pouring out from under the bonnet so I pulled infield. When we lifted the bonnet off we discovered that the muffler had come off the right bank of the engine and destroyed a gas shock in the process. The only good thing to come out of the race was that the engine survived OK, so we have made the necessary repairs and are ready to go Saturday night”.

“The Tyrepower Late Model Grand National promises to be a fantastic event, and the winner will have earned their victory as they face arguably the strongest field of Dirt Late Model racers ever assembled on the East Coast”.

“We will be aiming to get the #97 Viking Global Industries Rocket through the Heats without any major problems and hopefully get a start in the top half of the field in the A Main. From there, and with the race being 30 laps, anything is possible” concluded Wallace.
